INGREDIENTS

1cup-240ml; 1tablespoon – 15ml ; 1teaspoon – 5ml;

  • Flattened rice (Poha) – 1 cup
  • Potato (chopped) – 1 cup
  • Bell pepper (chopped) – 1/2 cup
  • Green peas – 2/3
  • Green chili – 3 pieces
  • Coriander leaves – 1/8 cup
  • Dried red chili – 1 piece
  • Curry leaves – 2 bunches
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Peanut (roasted) – 4 tbsp.
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Sugar – 1tbsp.
  • Lemon juice – 1 tbsp.
  • Oil – 2 tbsp.
  • Salt – 1 tsp or as per your taste

Notes

1. For this Alu Matar Poha recipe we have to choose thick flattened rice. There are varieties of poha available in market. Some of them are very thin and some are thick. Medium to more thick poha is the best for the dish.
 
2. When we are using thick poha then it will not break easily and also stay fluffy for long time.
 
3. For medium thick poha, wash it for 3 times and then use it into your dish. If you are using extreme thick poha then wash it for 3 times. Then sprinkle 2-3 tbsp. of water on top of it wait for 5 minutes.
 
4. Roasted peanuts goes well with poha. If you don’t have it, use whatever nuts you have in your kitchen. Like cashew, roasted almonds etc.
 
5. I have not included onions in my ingredients. If you are a onion lover or want to add it in your ingredients then use it.
 
6. Curry leaves are also a optional ingredients. I live in Bangalore and there curry leaves is easily available. So if you don’t get it, use only coriander leaves.
 
7. To make it more tasty you can add some boiled lentils into it. In that case you have to fry them in oil and have to boil them for 10 minutes. Else they will very nutty and wouldn’t breakable by teeth.
 
8. Don’t use much turmeric powder. It may change poha’s color from yellow to red. So be careful and follow the exact measurements as mentioned.

How to make Alu Matar Poha

Step 1: Firstly we need to chop all the veggies into small pieces. Don’t roughly chop them, try to chop them into fine pieces. Else they may not fry properly within short time.

Step 2: If you are using the extreme thick poha then it’s the time to wash it. After washing the poha add little water on it. This process will help our poha get moist and fluffy.

Tips: Don’t use much water, If you have 1 cup of poha (extreme thick flattened rice) then after 3 time washing them add or sprinkle 2-3 tbsp. of water. But don’t use any extra water, if you are using medium thick poha (flattened rice).

Step 3: Take a fry pan and heat it. Now add 2 tbsp. of oil on the preheated pan. Now when the oil starts smoking, add 1 tsp of mustard seed and cumin seeds. Wait for the spluttering of them and now we will add 1 dry red chili and curry leaves into the oil and fry them for 1/2 miniute.

Step 4: At this point we will add chopped potatoes and fry them for at least 4-5 minutes. To this lengthy step replace the raw potato with the boiled potato.

Step 5: Now we will add chopped bell pepper (capsicum), green peas, green chilies into the oil. Fry them all for 3-4 minutes on low flame and add 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder into it. Mix them all very well.

Step 6: It’s time to add soaked poha (flattened rice), roasted peanuts, salt and sugar into the fry pan. Gently mix them with using a spatula. Roughly mix them otherwise our poha will break into pieces.

Step 7: Squeeze the lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves into the poha and stir them all. Flavorful Alu Matar Poha is ready for your breakfast. Enjoy the poha with your family.
