Jhal Muri

Jhal Muri is a popular and flavorful street food snack that originated in the Indian state of West Bengal, particularly in Kolkata. It is a beloved dish among locals and tourists alike, known for its vibrant flavors and quick preparation. In this Jhal Muri, jhal means spicy and muri means murmura or puffed rice.

INGREDIENTS

1cup-240ml; 1tablespoon – 15ml ; 1teaspoon – 5ml;

Ingredients for 2 serving

– Muri (Puffed Rice) – 2 cups

– Roasted chana – 2 tbsp

– Masala cornflakes (with peanuts) – ¼ cup

– Mota Gathiya – ¼ cup

– Fresh coconut (small pieces) – 2 tbsp

– Chopped green chilli – 1 piece

– Chopped tomato (avoid the seed part)– 1 tbsp

– Carrot slices – 1 tbsp

– Sliced cucumber (avoid the seed)– 1 tbsp

– Chaat masala – ¼ tsp

– Rock salt – ¼ tsp

– Mango pickle (spicy) – 1 tsp

– Mustard oil – 1 tsp

– Lemon juice – ¼ of a small lemon

– Coconut slice – 1-2 pieces (for garnish)


How to make jhal muri

1. In a large mixing bowl, add the puffed rice (muri).

2. Peel the carrot and cucumber and slice them very thin. Try to avoid the seed part of the cucumber. Dice the tomato also, (avoid the seed part).

3. Add roasted chana, masala cornflakes, mota gathiya, fresh coconut slices, chopped green chilli, chopped tomato, carrot slices, and sliced cucumber to the bowl.

4. Now sprinkle chaat masala and rock salt over the mixture.

5. At the end, add mango pickle, mustard oil, and lemon juice to the bowl. Mix all the ingredients well to ensure they are evenly coated.

6. At this stage, taste it and adjust the seasoning if needed.

7. To serve the jhal muri, use a piece of paper and roll it, from one corner to another to make a cone.

8. Even you can serve it in bowls or plates. Divide the jhal muri mixture equally.

9. Garnish with a few coconut slices on top for decoration.

10. Serve immediately and enjoy the delicious Jhal Muri as a snack or appetizer.

Note: You can customize the recipe by adding or omitting ingredients based on your preference. Additionally, you can add chopped onions, roasted peanuts or other spices to enhance the flavor further.
