Narkel Naru, also known as Coconut Ladoo, is a popular traditional sweet in Bengali cuisine, which hails from the eastern part of India, particularly the state of West Bengal. “Narkel” means coconut, and “Naru” refers to the sweet balls or ladoos made from coconut and other ingredients.
Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 55 minutes
Serving : 20 people (each one)
Ingredients
1cup-240ml; 1tablespoon – 15ml; 1teaspoon – 5ml;
– 1 whole large-sized fresh grated coconut
– 2-3 freshly crushed cardamom pods
– 1/2 cup normal water
– 1/4 cup milk powder
– 1/2 cup jaggery powder
How to make Narkel Naru
1. Grate the fresh coconut and set it aside. Crush the cardamom pods to obtain the seeds and crush them into a fine powder.
2. In a large pan, add the normal water and milk powder. Mix them together until the milk powder is completely dissolved in the water.
3. Now, add the freshly grated coconut, jaggery powder, and crushed cardamom to the pan with the water and milk powder mixture.
4. Place the pan on medium heat and stir the mixture continuously.
5. Keep stirring until all the ingredients are well combined, and the mixture becomes sticky. This will take about 20-25 minutes.
6. Once the mixture reaches a sticky consistency, remove it from the heat. Let it cool for about 5 minutes, or until it’s cool enough to handle.
7. While the mixture is still warm, grease your hands with a little ghee or oil to prevent sticking.
8. Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into round balls or ladoos using your hands. You can make them as large or small as you like.
9. Allow the Narkel Naru to cool completely at room temperature. Once they have cooled down, you can store them in an airtight container.
Enjoy your homemade Narkel Naru as a sweet treat or dessert!
