Posto is a less popular edible plant seed, which is popularly known as poppy seeds around the world. Using this poppy seeds, today we are going to make Posto bora recipe. It’s belongs to Bengali cuisine.
Posto bora is little crunchy and tasty bora. Bora is a kind of fritter which fried into oil. In India bora has known by some other popular name like Bonda, Pakora, Bhaji etc.
Bengali people love posto in their food. They use to make Aloo (Potato) posto, Potal posto, Jhingge posto, peyaj (Onion) posto and many more. If you are a Bengali then you know about it.
I had this posto bora many times, Which made by my father. My father was a very great cook and he loved to make different kind of dishes for us.
First time I had fall in love with this posto bora when I had eaten it in santiniketan, Bolpur, West Bengal. Its taste was awesome.
After having it and have tired many time to make it at home , but It did not came out as good as that one.
But this time I succeed to make my favorite Posto bora. And trust me it is crispy, tasty and flavorful. Its little tricky to cook and needs special care and attention to detail during cooking.

INGREDIENTS
1cup-240ml; 1tablespoon – 15ml ; 1teaspoon – 5ml;
To make the posto bora batter
- Posto (poppy seeds) – 1/4 cup
- Rice flour – 1/4 cup
- Onion (Chopped) – 1/4 cup
- Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp.
- Hing – 1/2 tsp
- Salt – 1 tsp or as per your taste
- Mustard oil – 1 tbsp.
For frying the posto bora
- Mustard Oil for deep frying the posto bora

How to make Posto Bora Recipe
Step 1: Firstly we need to soak posto seeds (poppy seeds) for at least 5 minutes. Wash the seeds and add 2 tbsp. of water into the same bowl.
Step 2: Meanwhile chop the green chilies and onions. We need fine chop of them, So here you can use your food processor to chop the onion and chili.
Step 3: Now 5 minutes is complete, So we will make it (poppy seeds) a thick paste. Pour the soaked posto /poppy seeds with water into a blender. And blend it for 2-3 times and don’t use extra water at this time.
Step 4: Put all chopped veggies in to a bowl. Add 1/4 cup of rice flour and posto (poppy seeds) paste and mix them all together.
Step 5: It’s time to add spices into it. So add 1 tsp of cumin seeds and 1 tsp of salt. Mix them all together and wait for 1-2 minutes.
Step 6: Now add 1 tsp of asafetida (hing) and 1 tbsp. of mustard oil into the batter. Mix them all and our Posto bora batter is ready to fry.
Step 7: Take a fry pan and heat it. Now add oil to fry and wait for 1 minute.
Step 8: Using a spoon put posto bora batter into the oil and fry them for both sides. Always use low flame/heat to fry them evenly. When they are little red in color take them out and put them on tissue papper.
Tips: Always use tissue paper to soak the extra oil on fried bonda, bhaji or fritter.
Step 9: Our Posto bora is ready to be served. Serve it as a starter and enjoy your family lunch. I hope you all will love it.
