We will make it in South Indian style and that’s why I have used Curry leaves and mustard seeds in this recipe.

INGREDIENTS

1cup-240ml; 1tablespoon – 15ml ; 1teaspoon – 5ml;

For marinating the prawns

  • Prawns (peeled) – 200 gm
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp
  • Black pepper – 1/2 tsp
  • Corn flour – 2 tbsp.
  • Salt – 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric – 1/4 tsp

For Prawns Fry

  • Curry leaves – 2 bunches
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilies – 2 pieces
  • Oil – 2 tbsp.

Notes

1. We use prawns very often in our dish. In market you could find varieties of prawns, like small, medium etc. Here we need medium one. Anyway you can use whatever available for you.
 
2. For this recipe we need peeled prawns. Also, I suggest you to use fresh prawns rather then frozen packed ones.
 
3. Marinate the prawns for at least 15 minutes. For 15 minutes you don’t need to put it inside fridge. If you wish to marinate it more than 30 mins, its better to keep inside fridge.
 
4. During the marination, add only all above ingredients which I have mentioned. Don’t use extra water.
 
5. Pro tips to keep the prawns soft for long after cooking – don’t fry or over cook the prawn. Prawns need less time to cook properly.
 
6. Because I am going to make prawn fry in South Indian style that’s why I have used curry leaves and mustard seeds here. You can replace curry leaves by coriander leaves. In that case you have to put them at the last stage of cooking.
 
7. Oil type is totally optional, you can use it according to you taste. But I personally prefer to use mustard oil to cook any kind of non-veg dishes. Mustard oil has a strong aroma and also has high smoke point. These adds up to the taste of final product.

How to make Prawns Fry

Step 1: First we need to marinate the prawns. So take the prawns into a bowl then add salt and turmeric into it. Mix them very well. Let it be for 10 minutes.

Step 2: After that, take a another bowl. Now add corn flour and black pepper into it. Mix them very well.

Step 3: On this time, put the marinated prawns into the mixture and coat the prawns with the mixture. After that add the lemon juice into it and mix them again. Now wait for another 5 minutes to marinate the prawns.

Step 4: Now take 2 tbsp. of oil into a preheated fry pan or kadai. Add the prawns into the pan and fry them for 5 minutes on low to medium flame.

Step 5: Our prawns fry is ready to be served. I prefer this as a starter dish but you can serve this as a side dish.
